Abstract


Indonesia is the biggest country in the world of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production with the annual result is 28 million tons/year. In the processing of crude palm oil, per tonnage of fresh fruitbunches will produce 120-200 kgscrude palm oil, 230-250kgs of palmempty bunches, 130-150 kgs of fiber, 60-65 kgs of palm shell, 55-60 kgs of kernel, and 0.7 m3of waste water. According to crude palm oil production will produce more than 50 million m3 waste water per year. The problem of waste water is a source of potential environmental pollution, so that Crude Palm Oil industry has to do some treatments before it is dumped to environment. The characteristics of waste water of Crude Palm Oilsindustry are temperature 60-70oC, pH 3.6-5.0, total suspended solid 3,000-5,000 mgs/l, BOD 23,000-32,000 mgs/l, COD 25,000-36,000 mgs/l. Regarding with its very high organic content, as COD and BOD value, that purpose to investigate so that its easy to degradable matter if its treated by anaerobicprocess. It will finally of process its produce biogas with high methane (CH4) content. This bioenergyis source of potential renewable energy.
