Abstract

In recent years, character education has become a heated issue. It is due to the fact that young generation, particularly students show their moral decadence such as disrespect to older people or to teachers, intolerance to differences, gang violence, teen pregnancy, disobedience to law and poor academic achievement. Ignoring such a bad character of the young people means putting the future generation who sooner or later will replace older generation’s positions in great danger. It is therefore high time for schools to instill their students important core, moral, ethical, and civic values such as respect, responsibility, self-discipline, tolerance, and justice. This paper attempts to show that by providing reading materials dealing with ethical and moral values, sharing and practicing them among students, they will perceive more understanding on them and their character will change significantly to be better.
