Abstract


The purpose of this research is to describe the mathematical reasoning ability of students in problem solving who have a Field Independent cognitive style. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research are XI IPA 4 students of Sultan Agung 1 Islamic High School and selected based on Group Embedded Figures Test. The data collection was done by written test and interview. Data analysis was performed based on written test data and task-based interview data. The validity of the data uses triangulation method. The results showed that mathematical reasoning ability of students in problem solving who have a Field Independent cognitive style: (1) able to understand the problem by presenting a statement orally and writing, (2) able to devise a plan by presenting allegations, (3) in carry out the plan can compile the evidence with appropriate calculations and draw conclusions (4) in look back stage, able to check the truth of a statement however imperfect so not to give another alternative answer.
