Abstract


The problem solving skills of each student is different. This situation can be caused by several factors that affect students in solving problems both internal and external factors. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of students' mathematical problem solving abilities on social arithmetic materials and to determine what factors affect the problem-solving ability. This research was conducted in MTs NU Nurul Huda Semarang and the subject of this research is the students of class VII E MTs NU Nurul Huda Semarang. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data collection was done by observation, test and interview with test consisting of 2 packages and interviewing conducted 2 times at different time. Students with high ability, students are able to understand the problems, able to finish the plans, able to carry out the finish plans in accordance with what is planned and able to conclude the results obtained. In the knowledge of any student has excellent knowledge, good mathematics background, the desire and motivation of students is very high also the structures of the problem of students prefer a question that has an answer to adopt. The results are influenced by several factors, among others: 1) initial experience, 2) mathematical background, 3) desire and motivation, 4) problem structure.
