DEVELOPING MONU – MONU (MONOPOLY, SNAKES AND LADDERS) AS FUN ACTIVITIES BASED WRITTEN VOCABULARY OF PROCEDURE TEXT MATERIAL

Abstract


This study is to determine what fun activities are needed by students to improve their vocabulary in writing procedure text, to establish how MONU - MONU is as prototype implemented to teach vocabulary in writing procedure text, and to explain how effective is MONU - MONU as prototype of fun activities to teach vocabulary in writing procedure text. This study used Research and Development (R&D). The subjects were the grade eight students of SMP Roudlotul Saidiyah and SMP Tugu Soeharto Semarang. The instruments were questionnaire, interview/ discussion and documentations. A pre-questionnaire was used to collect information on the teachers’ experience on teaching procedure text and students’ need. A post-questionnaire was used to record teachers’ responses to the application of the MONU - MONU game in the procedure text. The writer wanted to develop a new game by combining two games, called MONU - MONU (Monopoly, Snake and ladders).The result of the development of model draft was then validated by some experts theoretically as well as the contents of the draft. The total average of students’ achievement on vocabulary was 76.05 and writing procedure text was 70.45. This implies that MONU - MONU and the teaching material are good enough effective. The conclusion shows that MONU – MONU is worthwhile for students’ achievement, especially in written vocabulary of procedure text.
