Abstract

As a teacher, learning plan is significant preparation before starting the teaching. When teachers make learning plan, he wants the learning process can take place properly and effectively. One of the important components on the learning plans is a model of learning. Model-based learning environment can be regarded as one model of efficient learning. Because the subject matter of this model relates to the environment of students and makes learning more meaningful, Model-based learning environment is used as an attempt to introduce students to the natural resources around them. One of these natural resources is the coastal environment. Coastal environment has a very abundant potential of natural resources. The potency among others, mangroves, coconut trees, coral reefs, fish, seagrass beds, and minerals. Many potential exists on the coast but have not been utilized optimally by the local community. Yet the fact remains that not less than 60% of Indonesia's population live in coastal areas. To solve the problems concerning the utilization of natural resources is not maximized, then the young people who live in coastal areas need to be given direction and guidance to utilize natural resources. Through a learning process that refers to a model-based learning environment, students can get to know the coastal environment and utilize the potential of existing natural resources. Utilization of natural resources will be developed into economically valuable goods so that coastal communities can prepare for the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
