EMPLOYABILITY VOCATIONAL SKILLS ON TEACHER CANDIDATES COMPETENCY OF THE DRESSMAKING SKILL PROGRAM

Abstract


The purpose of this study was to determine the level of interest and profile of prospective teacher employability skills dressmaking vocational competency skills performed with descriptive exploratory survey techniques. The populations were students who study dressmaking competency skills in FKIP UST. Sampling technique was purposive that in force year 2009-2011 students who have carried out teaching practice. Data collection was questionnaire, while analysis techniques used descriptive quantitative through calculation of the percentage. The results of the study were as follows: component of fundamental skills with a very important category were the attribute of communication, manage information, and solve problems. While the components of personal management skills with a very important category is the responsibility. Team work component was very important category cooperation (85.71%). Nevertheless, there are still attributes less important employability skills according to a few respondents, i.e. continuous learning (28.57%) and leadership (7.14%). Profile fundamental component mastered skills in the category of very small proportion of respondents (≤11%) on the attributes resolve the problem, whereas the attributes held by most respondents, namely; communications (85.19%), using technology (81.48%), managing activities (77.78%), expression opinion and manage information respectively 70.37%, less than half (≥50%) of respondents did not master attribute efforts and initiatives as well as mathematical skills. Personal management skills component of most (≥70%) of respondents controlled, continuous learning is still less controlled by a minority of respondents (≤25%). Team work skills component attributes cooperate and participate actively controlled by the majority of respondents (≥80%), but more than half of respondents (≤55%) did not master the attributes of leadership.
