MANAGEMENT MODEL OF NATIONALISM-BASED CHARACTER EDUCATION TO DEVELOP NATIONALISM AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Abstract


The focus of this study is on the development of enculturation management model of the nationalism-based character education to establish nationalism among elementary school students. This study is aimed to: 1). describe the nationalism-based character education implemented at the elementary schools; 2) develop an effective management model of the nationalism-based character for elementary school students; and 3) determine the effectiveness of enculturation model of nationalism-based character education for elementary school students. The approach used in this study is qualitative with Research and Development method. The technique of collecting data were interviews, observation, documentation, and Focus Group Discussion. The results of the study show that 1) the nationalism-based character education of enculturation is varied, nonstandard, unplanned, uncoordinated, unimplemented, and unmeasurable from which the students’ nationalism development has not optimally improved; 2) the design of development model includes planning, coordination, implementation, and control inviting the principle, teachers, and the students as well as the parents through integrating nationalism of course subject, extracuricular, habit, and culture from school by the process of leading, mentoring, and giving appreciation; 3) the effectiveness of this development model is affected by some factors such as (a) standardized management of enculturation, (b) the avaliability of effective design of enculturation management, (c) the implementation of planned, structured, measured, and sustainable enculturation process, (d) individual’s readiness and the involvement of collective mentality (f) teacher supervision and parent assisting, and (f) distribution of appreciation and motivation to the students. The recommendations are: (a) the development model of enculturation management is used as the standard for the nationalism-based character education at the elementary schools (b) there should be some further researches that focus on factors affecting the effectiveness of enculturation at the elementary and secondary schools.
