Abstract


The objectives of this study are (1) to investigate the existing material for the teaching of procedural text and (2) the need analysis of the procedural text material development in developing procedural text material containing fun activities to strengthen students’ characters. The design used was Research and Development (R&D). The subjects of this research were the eighth graders of Junior High School and the English teachers. The data were collected by using three kinds of instruments: observation sheet, interview, and questionnaire. The result showed that the teachers only used textbooks in teaching and most of them rarely taught through fun activities. As a result, the students often felt bored. The teachers only read the texts and asked the students to practice without any kind of enjoyable and fun activities. From the result of the need analysis through questionnaire, it can be seen that the highest score of the activity needed was fun activities. That is why the writer will develop the teaching material of procedural text based on fun activities to strengthen students’ characters.
