Model of Word Games in Teaching Vocabulary For Students Junior High School in Semarang, Central Java

Abstract


This research is a model of word games in teaching vocabulary for students of junior high school in Semarang, Central Java. According to Abdurrahman, Tarmini W, and Kadaryanto (2012) states that the exclusive learning model was developed using metacognitive models which are learning and theory to develop students’ thinking or understanding. The main objective of this research is to discuss the model of word games in teaching vocabulary in the classroom. The population consisted some teachers who creates several models of word games in teaching vocabulary. This research was descriptive qualitative approach. The problemsare: 1) what is the model of word games in teaching vocabulary? 2) how to apply the model of word games in teaching vocabulary in junior high school? The method of data analysiswerefollowed asa) the model of word games in teaching vocabulary related to the basic competencies within the syllabus. b) The model must be validated by the English teaching experts so that that it can be assessed whether the model of word games is suitable to use as well as by other English teachers. c) Then its model applied in the classroom through giving a reflection. The result of research are; 1)there is a particular template which is designed by teachers in creating and guiding the making word games, 2) there are some procedures/ steps in applying word games in teaching vocabulary. As the additional information, there are 45 of model of word games in teaching vocabulary created by teachers. It can be classified as; word games on VII grade was 62%, while word games on VIII grade was 22% and the word games on IX grade was 16%. The implication are; a model of teaching vocabulary using word games can be accepted and applied in the junior high school classroom, the can be used by all English teachers regarding with the level of grade.
