Abstract

Leslie matrix is a matrix used to predict the number and growth rate of a population. Internal factors that
influence population changes in the Leslie matrix are female fertility rates and women's survival rates.
The purpose of this study was to determine the growth rate of female population in Central Java Province
in 2020 and determine the prediction of the rate of growth of female population in Central Java Province
using the Wolfram Mathematica software-assisted Leslie matrix. Data collection was carried out through
documentation and direct interviews at the Central Statistics Agency of Central Java Province, Central
Java Provincial Health Office, and the Central Java Community, Village, Population and Civil Registration
Service. The method used in this reseach was literature study and case studies. The results showed that
the Leslie matrix produced from population data, number of births and number of female deaths in
Central Java Province obtained the number of female population in Central Java Province in 2020 was
17,997,184 people and eigenvalues ( 𝑖) tended to be positive or in other words the population growth
rate has increased. Based on the application of the Leslie matrix by using the Wolfram Mathematica
software, the rate of growth of the female population in Central Java Province increased by 0.34723%
every five years.
Keywords: Leslie matrix, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and female population growth.
