Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan: 1) Mitos yang terkandung dalam rumah sunduk sate bagi masyarakat Jawa, 2) Wiradat yang perlu dipersiapakan untuk mengantisipasi hal-hal yang tidak diinginkan, 3) Tanggapan masyarakat terhadap mitos tersebut. Rumah sunduk sate bagi masyarakat Jawa memiliki mitos: 1) Sering terjadi kecelakaan yang disebabkan faktor human error, faktor kendaraan, faktor geografis dan kontur jalan, 2) Penghuninya jika memiliki usaha akan mengalami kebangkrutan, 3) Mengandung energi negatif, 4) Penghuninya mudah kepanasan termasuk suami istri mudah bertengkar, 5) Rentan terhadap ketidakcocokan dengan tetangga sekitar, 6) Rumahnya angker, 7) Penghuninya sakit-sakitan, 8) Sering terjadi gangguan ghoib ketika akan tidur dan terkadang terbawa mimpi, 9) Jika sudah berumah tangga susah mendapatkan keturunan. Sedangkan wiradat rumah sunduk sate: 1) Usahakan pintu utama tidak menghadap langsung dengan jalan, 2) Menjaga udara tetap bersih misalnya dengan menanam pohon, 3) Posisi kamar tidur utama tidak di bagian depan, 4) Pemasangan cermin sebagai peringatan bagi kendaraan yang melintas, 5) Pengamanan rumah yang lebih ketat misalnya dengan membuat tembok penghalang, 6) Ruwatan rumah, 7) Air terjun sebagai peredam suara dari luar, 8) Membuat sumur di depan rumah sebagai antisipasi jika terjadi kecelakaan akan menabrak dan masuk sumur. Selanjutnya tanggapan masyarakat terhadap rumah sunduk sate bagi masyarakat yang primitif masih mempercayainya sedangkan yang sudah maju sudah tidak mempercayainya lagi. Berdasarkan uraian di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa rumah sunduk sate mengandung beberapa mitos negatif. Untuk mengantisipasi hal tersebut diperlukan wiradat agar terhindar dari hal yang tidak diinginkan. Bagi masyarakat yang primitif mitos rumah sunduk sate masih dipercayai, sebaliknya masyarakat yang modern tak lagi mempercayainya.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe: 1) the myth contained in t-junction house (rumah sunduk sate) for Javanese people, 2) Wiradat needs to be prepared to anticipate unexpected things, and 3) people’s response to the myth. To Javanese people, T-junction house (Rumah Sunduk Sate) has the following myths: 1) some accidents occur frequently due to human error, vehicle, geographical and street contour factors, 2) when having business, the dwellers will go bankrupt as they have no parking lot, and their place is dirty, 3) containing negative energy, 4) the dwellers will have bad temper so that they are easily involved in quarrel, particularly husband and wife, 5) vulnerable to discordance with surrounding neighbor 6) their house is haunted, 7) the dwellers are sickly, 8) some mysterious disruption often occurs during sleeping and sometimes it enters into dream, 9) for the married couple, they will find difficult to have descent. Meanwhile the wiradat (attempt) taken to deal with T-junction house included: 1) to make the door not facing the street directly, 2) to keep the weather (air) clean, for example, by planting trees, 3) to position the main bedroom not in the front part, 4) to put the mirror as the warning to the vehicle crossing, 5) to safeguard the house more tightly, for example, by constructing obstructing wall, 6) to hold ruwatan, 7) to put waterfall to muffle the noise from outside, 8) to develop well in front of house to anticipate the accident so that the vehicle will hit and enter into the well. Furthermore, the people’s response to T-junction house (rumah sunduk sate) is that the primitive people believe in it, while the advanced one has no longer believed in it. Considering the elaboration above, it could be concluded that rumah sunduk sate, to Javanese people, contained some negative myths. To anticipate this, some attempts (wiradat) were needed to avoid the unexpected things. Primitive people still believe in the myth of rumah sunduk sate, but otherwise, the modern people no longer believe in it.
