Abstract


This study aimed to apply the method of language learning,  named Community  Language Learning (CLL) in English subject, to increase students' skill to speak with CLL method, as well as to study the response of students towards learning English (especially speaking) with CLL method. The subjects of this study were 40l students of semester I  (class A) of PGSD Department, Faculty of Education, Semarang State University. The method used was a classroom action research method that consisted of two cycles. Data were obtained through quantitative and qualitative which consisted of the initial condition for the students’ cognitive abilities, students’ learning outcomes (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor), and the results of analysis of students’ questionnaires. As the result, it was obtained that the rate of learning outcomes through the number of students who successfully achieved the targets had increased. The average score at the cycle I was 73.42 90%, and at thecycle II was 81.22, and 82% of students showed interest, and responses against CLL method. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that learning English (especially speaking) with CLL method can improve learning outcomes of students, and it is also recommended to conduct further research and the CLL method can be used as an alternative learning for lecturers who teach skills courses in an effort to improve student learning outcomes.
