Abstrak

Masalah (soal) open ended adalah masalah yang memiliki jawaban dan cara penyelesaian benar lebih dari satu. Masalah ini dapat dikelompokkan menjadi tiga tipe yaitu, classifying, finding relations dan measuring. Proses berpikir kreatif diperlukan untuk memecahkan masalah open ended, karena masalah ini menuntut siswa untuk menemukan jawaban dan cara penyelesaian yang benar lebih dari satu. Proses berpikir kreatif siswa dalam memecahkan masalah open ended dapat ditelusuri dengan proses kreatif model Wallas yaitu preparation (persiapan), incubation (inkubasi), illumination (iluminasi) dan verification (verifikasi). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir kreatif siswa dalam memecahkan masalah open ended. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode tes dan wawancara. Hasil tes digunakan sebagai dasar pengelompokan siswa dalam pemilihan subjek wawancara. Siswa dikelompokkan menjadi tiga yaitu kelompok bawah, kelompok tengah dan kelompok atas. Dari masing-masing kelompok tersebut, dipilih satu orang untuk diwawancarai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada tahap persiapan proses berpikir kreatif yang tampak adalah mengidentifikasi masalah, mengidentifikasi apa yang ditanyakan dalam soal, mengumpulkan informasi yang relevan dan mengaitkan informasi tersebut dengan pengetahuan terdahulu. Proses berpikir kreatif yang tampak pada tahap inkubasi adalah siswa berhenti sejenak memikirkan cara pemecahan dari masalah open ended yang disajikan, memikirkan beberapa alternatif cara dan memilih yang paling cocok. Pada tahap iluminasi proses berpikir kreatif yang tampak pada tahap ini adalah siswa mengaplikasikan ide yang ditemukan pada tahap sebelumnya untuk menyelesaikan ketiga tipe soal open ended. Proses berpikir kreatif pada tahap verifikasi dapat tidak diketahui karena tidak satupun dari tiga subjek penelitian melalui tahap ini.

Abstract

Open ended problem is a problem with more than one, both right answer and method to solve it. Open ended problem can be classified into three types: classifying, finding relations and measuring. Creative thinking process is needed to solve open ended problem. It is because this problem is required the students to find more than one both right answer and method. Student’s creative thinking process in solving open ended problem can be investigated by four phases of creative process. Those are preparation, incubation, illumination and verification. This research is conducted to describe student’s creative thinking process in solving open ended problem by using test and interview methods. Students are classified into three groups: low, modest and high. A student from each groups is chosen to be interviewed. The result of the research showed that creative thinking profile in the preparation phase are identifying the problem, identifying the question, collecting the relevant information from the problem and using the previously knowledge related to the problem. There are some differences of creative thinking process that occurs in this phase for each interviewed subject. Three students of interviewed subject always pass the incubation phase. Students stopped for a while to figure out an idea how to solve the open ended problem. All of students of interviewed subject always pass illumination phase. Creative thinking process in this phase is applying the idea to solve the open ended problem. Creative thinking profile in the verification phase can not be identified because no one of interviewed subject who pass this phase.
